Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Udayana University Celebrates 41st Anniversary, “Synergizing, Innovating, and Contributing Together Towards a Successful FMIPA”

Denpasar – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Udayana University celebrated the 41st anniversary of the Family Organization (Badan Kekeluargaan - BK) at the Nusantara Room, Agrokompleks Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The 41st BK event carried the theme “Synergizing, Innovating, and Contributing Together Towards a Successful FMIPA.”

The Committee Chair, I Gede Santi Astawa, reported that based on the theme, the committee formulated activities reflecting cooperation and togetherness among various parties and elements within FMIPA as well as external supporters of FMIPA Udayana’s campus activities. The anniversary and BK event began with a videography competition, which was a collaborative effort to develop commercialization products from lecturers within FMIPA into a joint effort between students and lecturers, aiming to increase the recognition of FMIPA’s products. A total of 18 product videos were created by student organizations (HIMA), garnering 64,000 views and 9,000 likes. Additionally, the committee organized a community service event within Udayana University involving cleaning and tree planting activities. The peak of the anniversary and BK event emphasized a family atmosphere, togetherness, and simplicity. The committee expressed gratitude for the cooperation from various parties, stating all planned activities had been successfully carried out. The Chair hoped all activities would run smoothly and continue to strengthen the family spirit among all parties to build FMIPA towards success.

Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Ni Luh Watiniasih, in her speech, stated that it is hard to believe FMIPA has been established for 41 years since 1984, initially with two study programs, Physics and Chemistry, which has now expanded to 13 study programs. Three new study programs are approved to open in 2025: Master of Informatics, Master of Pharmacy, and Master of Physics. There are many challenges, but in line with the theme, with togetherness, FMIPA can advance toward becoming better and achieving glory.

“Whatever the challenges, we face them together,” said the Dean of FMIPA.

She further explained that to support learning, through UPIKS, FMIPA has developed several programs, including WBS, SIAPBRO, and LMS. One ongoing development project is a bilingual website equipped with features to promote FMIPA internationally. The Dean also has plans to further develop FMIPA towards a better and more advanced future.

Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information, Prof. I Putu Gede Adiatmika, representing the Rector of Udayana University, delivered a congratulatory pantun (traditional poem) to celebrate FMIPA’s 41st anniversary and BK. He expressed hope that the celebration would encourage self-reflection on the faculty’s accomplishments over its 41 years — a considerable age for a faculty. He added that FMIPA is an essential part of the university’s progress, and the contributions made by the academic community have helped drive FMIPA’s development specifically and Udayana University in general.

“The university will always support and back all efforts made by faculty members, students, and the entire FMIPA academic community,” said the Vice Rector.

One of FMIPA’s hopes is related to a proposal submitted to JICA for the development of a joint laboratory involving several faculties within Udayana University. It is hoped that Bappenas and JICA will be convinced to include this in their strategic plans for lab development at Udayana University. The Vice Rector hopes that the existing synergy will help bring FMIPA even greater success.

The celebration concluded with the Dean of FMIPA blowing out the birthday candles and cutting the traditional tumpeng (cone-shaped rice) dish.
