JUPI Unit Holds Training to Enhance Scientific Journal Management at Udayana University Toward National and Global Reputation

Jimbaran – The JUPI (Journal and Publication Unit) of Udayana University held a training session on "Enhancing Scientific Journal Management at Udayana University Toward National and Globally Reputable Journals" on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Ruang Bangsa, Rectorate Building, Jimbaran Campus. The training featured Prof. Dr. Parmin, M.Pd as the keynote speaker and was attended by journal managers from within and outside Udayana University.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, ST., Ph.D, Rector of Udayana University, emphasized that journals are an essential medium for disseminating research results. As members of the academic community, publishing research findings is part of the university's core responsibilities: education, research, and community service. Among the tools for research dissemination, journals play a key role.

The Rector reaffirmed the university's commitment together with JUPI to improving the quality of journal publications at Udayana University. He highlighted that enhancing journal quality goes hand in hand with improving the quality of the articles published.

“We hope that through this training, and with insights from our speaker who is also a member of the Journal Accreditation Board we can gain a better understanding of effective strategies that need to be implemented,” he said. “JUPI will also categorize which journals are already performing well and which ones need further development.”

The Rector encouraged all journal managers to actively follow up on the strategies discussed.

“No matter how useful today’s information is, it won’t have any impact if it is not followed up. It will simply end here,” he added.

He also expressed his appreciation to the speaker and the JUPI team for organizing the event, as well as to the journal managers for their dedication. He acknowledged that not everyone has the passion for journal management, but those who do benefit by gaining exposure to current research developments and expanding their professional networks.

Before the main presentation, Dr. Gede Arda, S.TP., M.Sc., Ph.D, Head of the JUPI Unit, provided an overview of the current state of journals at Udayana University. In his session, Prof. Dr. Parmin shared practical tips for improving journal accreditation, including: For journals whose accreditation is set to expire within a year, begin preparing an issue at least six months in advance. For journals with existing accreditation over two years, ensure the first issue following the two-year mark is ready. For instance, if a journal plans to use a December issue for re-accreditation, critical preparations should be made by November.

The training is expected to provide journal managers with the tools and strategies needed to elevate their journals to national and international recognition.
